{"id":706,"date":"2011-05-24T16:25:46","date_gmt":"2011-05-24T21:25:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/justmercy.org\/WordPress\/?p=706"},"modified":"2012-06-24T00:04:05","modified_gmt":"2012-06-24T05:04:05","slug":"a-mountain-mission-trip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/justmercy.org\/WordPress\/?p=706","title":{"rendered":"A Mountain Mission Trip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After loading up the pack mules, the group took the \u201cshort\u201d way up the mountain, the steep route we had taken down last year.\u00a0 They arrived at our school and spent time with the people of the village.\u00a0 Talking with some of the Victory people that went, it seemed that just getting time to spend with the Haitians was a wonderful experience for them.\u00a0 They all slept on the concrete floor of Jolius\u2019 parents home.<\/p>\n<p>The next day, the Victory people went to the school and spent the morning with the<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_707\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/justmercy.org\/WordPress\/?attachment_id=707\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-707\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-707\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-707\" title=\"Victory folks putting on evangelistic skit for our school\" src=\"https:\/\/justmercy.org\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_1055-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/justmercy.org\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_1055-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/justmercy.org\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_1055-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-707\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Victory folks putting on evangelistic skit for our school<\/p><\/div>\n<p>children.\u00a0\u00a0 They love to evangelize through skits and songs and teaching.\u00a0 In the meantime, Bill and some of the others were holding a simple medical clinic for the people as we had taken some medical supplies up with us.<\/p>\n<p>That evening, they showed the God\/Man video to the people.\u00a0 Bill was sitting in front of Esther, one of the older students at our school, and he kept hearing her moan \u201cOh, Jesus\u201d during the showing.\u00a0 At the end, several people made decisions for the Lord including Esther.\u00a0 \u00a0How I wish it were not so difficult to get up to Pays-Pourri with a good translator.\u00a0 Though the children are getting some Bible teaching in our school, there is so much more that is needed. \u00a0It seems so much of our time is taken up with the immediate physical needs of the people of Haiti, particularly with the cholera epidemic. \u00a0Hopefully we can do more teaching in the future which is our heart&#8217;s desire.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_708\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/justmercy.org\/WordPress\/?attachment_id=708\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-708\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-708\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-708\" title=\"Mountain mission group with Victory folks and the Lindsey group\" src=\"https:\/\/justmercy.org\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_1148-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/justmercy.org\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_1148-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/justmercy.org\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_1148-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-708\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mountain mission group with Victory folks and the Lindsey group<\/p><\/div>\n<p>After returning from the mountains Saturday afternoon, the Lindsey\u2019s went up to Yvrose\u2019 to visit the children and see what progress had been made by the Haitians while they were gone.\u00a0 One rock wall for the patio had been completed and a wall was started behind the kitchen \u201cpad\u201d where the propane burners will go.<\/p>\n<p>A little later we went over to the village for the regular Saturday evening meal.\u00a0 It was the first time I had gotten to see Marianna\u2019s house, the one we had redone from twig and mud walls to rock and plaster.\u00a0 The new thatch roof is almost done and it is all such an improvement!<\/p>\n<p>Victory loaned us their van so early Sunday morning we loaded up the Lindsey group to take them to the airport.\u00a0 They had been such a blessing for 10 days.\u00a0 They worked hard at Yvrose\u2019, loved on her children, and were a great blessing to all of us.\u00a0 I wanted to share Elisabeth Lindsey\u2019s Facebook entry after returning to the states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot sure what to do with weather under 100 degrees.\u00a0 Hmmmm. And I might have to sleep on the concrete floor to be comfortable tonight.\u00a0 I was due for a dose of perspective.\u00a0 Oh, and no chicken guts for supper tonight.\u00a0 That was a bummer.\u00a0\u00a0 Haiti was amazing, guys.\u00a0 Thanks for praying.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I had to smile.<\/p>\n<p>Last Friday night was a big storm.\u00a0 Remember the family that we gave the tent to who were living in a little lean-to and then a few weeks later the mother died?\u00a0 The storm ruined the tent and the father with his 3 sons and 1 daughter showed up at Yvrose\u2019.\u00a0 She talked with her family.\u00a0 Three of her boys were sleeping in a bunk by themselves.\u00a0 These bunks are just plywood with a blanket on it, no mattresses, and aren\u2019t particularly wide. They said they would share with the new boys.\u00a0 Rosekinsia was in a bunk by herself so she shared with little Marlene.\u00a0 The father slept in the storeroom.\u00a0 So now there is another family there and Yvrose\u2019 children are learning to share what they have even if it is a narrow bed.<\/p>\n<p>Bill and I went over to see Rod at Victory Compassion.\u00a0 While we were there we told him the story of Yvrose taking in another family.\u00a0 He looked at us and said, \u201cWell, if she keeps opening the doors, we\u2019d better get another house up there!\u201d\u00a0 So, once again, the race is on.\u00a0 We\u2019re trying to get another foundation poured in two days.\u00a0 Rod wants to put it up on Thursday!<\/p>\n<p>We are also hoping to get the well in at Yvrose\u2019 before we come home.\u00a0 The drillers are in the area so hopefully they will be able to work us in and Yvrose\u2019 family will be able to at least hand pump their water.\u00a0\u00a0 We have gotten two estimates on the cost to have electricity brought up to Yvrose\u2019 from the main road.
