Fountain of Life?

11th Haiti Trip – Vol. I

Bill sent this from Haiti today following another trip earlier this week into the mountains with Dr. Alfredo Suarez.   Please take the time to read it.  God is doing amazing things!

A dear man once said that the law of the Creator is the necessity of the creature.  Another man once asked what is the greatest commandment. Well…..Love God with all your heart, with all your mind, with all your strength, and your neighbor as your self. Jesus said this is pretty much the heart of the deal. Seems pretty straight forward.

He also said, “A man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions”.  If that’s the case, what does it consist of?  What gives life meaning? What fills this void, this longing for something more?

Maybe these two statements belong together. Perhaps if we are loving God with all our heart, mind, and strength and our neighbor as our self, we will discover of what a man’s life consists. I think that’s it. The secret fountain of life. A good long drink and my questions about life are answered.

The Fountain and the drink?

Knowing and loving the God of goodness; beauty; love; the God of Life! Knowing and loving my Father, my Brother, my God, my King and in that knowing and loving, I gather my neighbor up in my arms and love him like I’ve known Love and my heart is filled, my need is met, my thirst is quenched!

The road of life is like the Jericho road, and all along the way we will find those  “fallen among thieves”. Shall we pass by on the other side and miss the blessing or will we ” prove to be a neighbor!”?

It seems so much easier here in Haiti!  Here so many have “fallen among thieves”…”for the thief comes to steal, and kill, and destroy”, steal dreams, kill vision, destroy hearts!  Here the road is too narrow to “pass by on the other side” and I am almost forced to drink from the water that “wells up unto eternal life” and here, as I endeavor to love God and love my neighbor, I discover that the law of the Creator is not just the necessity of the creature but the pleasure, the joy, the wealth, the life!

We found Adrienne on the side of a mountain. She was sitting looking out across a place of such exquisite beauty that, though she can’t read and she can’t walk, I almost envy her!  We think Adrienne’s deformities may have been caused by a childhood fever, possibly rheumatic.  She can barely walk and has a lot of pain. We also believe it’s progressive. We must carry her up the mountain to see the doctor we brought with us.

Bill carrying Adrienne

It is the second time Adrienne and I have met. She is already a JUST MERCY team member and plays a solar powered audio box called a Proclaimer to her illiterate neighbors every day.  It is the first time they have ever heard the Bible. Is she a weak vulnerable human being or an Angel of light?…Who can tell?  I just know that we must begin the trip up the mountain. So I lift her up and as I hold her in my arms I feel as though my heart would break, or will it burst?… and I can’t distinguish the tears of sorrow from the tears of joy!

Of what does a man’s life consist? For me the question is answered!

“Ho! Everyone that thirsts come to the water”!!!

A walk through Isaiah 55 might speak to you.

The Truck is BACK!!!!!!! Praise God!

The second message Bill sent today was one word.  YAAAAAAAH!!  After nine months and nine days, our truck was returned to us.  Too long a story to tell but praise the Lord, we did not have to pay more money.  It needs some maintenance but it is back and we are so grateful!!!!  Thank you to all who have prayed for this as it is so important to the work in Haiti.

Our next update will deal with an amazing thing happening this week!  Stay tuned.  If you’d like to help us continue the work in Haiti, you can send a check to the address below or go to our website and click the donate button.  We are so grateful to all of you who have helped and continue to help us seek to share God’s love with the people of Haiti.  May God bless you all!
