A New Baby and What God Hath Wrought
9th Haiti Trip – Vol. I
Bill flew back to Haiti on Aug. 24th to prepare for our friend, Skip Lindsey, who was coming with three more of his children and other friends a week later. Bill also tried to pound on some more doors in PAP, trying to get our truck back. We thought we might have to go buy another one as we have to haul materials and people so much. We really didn’t want to do that as that money would go a long way toward Yvrose’ shower/bathroom house and septic system. But Rod of Victory Compassion once again came to our rescue and loaned us one of their trucks for the time our friends were here, Praise the Lord!
On Sunday, Bill got a call from Sherlie’s sister, Rachelle, on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince. She was in labor and could not afford to go to a PAP hospital. Bill drove to PAP in Yvrose’ car and picked her up to bring her out to HCM’s obstetrical clinic here in Fonds-Parisien. As he was driving she was breathing through contractions and Bill was wondering if he was going to have to deliver the baby on the street!
They made it to the clinic where the midwives pronounced that she still had a long way to
go so Bill brought her out to our house and spent the next few hours coaching her on her breathing and helping her through labor. Finally she was getting closer and Bill took her back to the clinic where she delivered a 4 lb. baby girl! Her name is Amanda Mae, Mae being my middle name. (They couldn’t name her William or Scott since she was a girl. Rachelle told her husband that Bill was Amanda’s “first daddy”! Ha!) We are so grateful to God for a new life in Haiti!
I flew to Miami and met the 7 person Lindsey party on Thursday morning, Sept. 1st, and flew into Haiti with them. Bill met us with the girls and Yvrose at the airport. We spent the rest of the day stopping several places, the PAP outdoor market for groceries, another place for mosquito nets, another for frozen chicken, another to change money, driving through the horrendous stop and go traffic with lots of pot holes in the roads of PAP.
That evening, we went up to Yvrose’ to see the children. I did a double take. The last
time I was here, she was still cooking in the “tent” in the dirt and there was one half wall where they were going to set up the kitchen. Now the entire back wall was completed. They had a large 3 propane burner “stove” built. Victory had put a metal roof over the entire area so everything was shaded! The concrete work between the first two houses and the last house Victory built for them was completed with steps.
As the children were singing praise and worship, I stepped back and nearly wept remembering where we had started months ago. Yvrose’ family has a roof over their heads, a water well in their back yard, and electricity to light the night! The Lindsey group has started to dig the foundation for the shower/bathroom house and we hope to get that done soon.
What a blessing it has been to us to be a part of giving so many children a cup of cold water! We are grateful for all of you who have helped to make this possible.
The Lindsey’s brought Dr. Chris Consavage with them. We are so excited to have a doctor come. We are leaving early Monday morning for the trek up to our to cholera treatment centers. We will be holding medical clinics at each, seeing the people, and seeking to bless them with the love of Jesus. We will also be taking up the Proclaimers, the solar/crank “radios” that broadcast the gospel. We intend to leave one at each cholera clinic to play for the people there. Please keep us in your prayers as we make this trip.
In our last update detailing our hopes and dreams for Haiti, I failed to mention that if you would like to help us continue our work here, besides the option of sending us a check, there is also a Paypal donate button on our website, www.justmercy.org.
We also have posted on our youtube channel a new slideshow showing the arduous journey it has been to get the cholera clinics started. Some of the pictures of the trip to the mountains are pretty amazing. We hope you will watch at it and be blessed.
May God bless you all. Next time will be the story of our journey into the mountains with a medical team! Praise God for His goodness!!
